I am crazy about modern classic furniture, like the Eames lounge chair, the Barcelona Chair and the Modular lamp. But there are also modern classics in the accessory-range. One of my favorites is everything from the Alvar Aalto line. The original design was created in 1936 by Alvar Aalto for the Paris World fair and got it's name after the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki, where these vases were placed on the dining tables. His inspiration was the shape of the leather pants that Eskimo women were wearing other say he was inspired by the shapes of the Finnish landscape.
Now, Ittala produces a complete range of vases, bowls and candle holders in this amazing shape that looks different from every angle. My favourite way to fill this vase is with fresh tulips from my local market!
PS: the small candle holders are currently 30 % off at the Bijenkorf!
